OLC KIDS SPRING CHESS CAMP

March 25-27, 2024

OLC Kids Spring Break Chess Camp (for ages 7 to 13) is a 3-day camp (3 hours each day) consisting of chess instruction and play. Similar to our Summer Chess Camp (only shorter days), we have a morning session for beginners* (with a chess rating** of below 1000) & unrated students, and an afternoon session for intermediate & advanced students with a chess rating of above 1000. The morning camp starts at 8:30am (PT) and ends at 11:30am (PT). The afternoon camp starts at 1:00pm (PT) and ends at 4:00pm (PT). Students will need to bring their own snacks each day.

Note: Due to the size of the venue, we will only allow a total of 12 students per session. Please sign up as soon as possible before spots are taken.

*Some basic chess knowledge is recommended for beginners.

**Chess rating can be from chess associations like the USCF (United Stated Chess Federation), or from other chess websites such as chess.com or lichess.org . If you have questions re: your child's chess rating, please contact us directly.

About Our Chess Camp Coach

(Jerry Sherrard)

Jerry Sherrard is a private chess coach. With over 15 years tournament experience, he has attained the USCF CM title. After teaching chess classes with Chess Vision and Mozek Games, he decided to work privately. He is currently working with coach GM Sam Khanin to advance his chess playing and coaching. Since 2010, Jerry has enjoyed coaching people of all ages to reach their potential in our beloved ancient game.

  • Tactics
  • Beginner / Intermediate Strategies
  • Endgames & Checkmates
  • Chess notation
  • We'll play chess in the following formats: Free Play/Random Chess, and an UNRATED chess tournament during the last day of camp (with prizes).

SCHEDULING:

  • Morning session (beginner & unrated) - 8:30am-11:30am (drop off time 8:15am-8:30am / pick up time 11:30am-11:45am)
  • Afternoon session (intermediate & advanced) - 1:00pm-4:00pm (drop off time 12:45pm-1:00pm / pick up time 4:00pm-4:15pm)

PRICING:

  • $150.00 (for current OLC Kids Chess Club members)
  • $180.00 (for non-members)

WAITLIST & CANCELLATIONS:

  • If spots are filled up, your child will be put on a WAITLIST with a position number (ex. 1st in line). You will be notified via phone or email if there are any withdrawals based on your position number. If you decline to take the spot, we will contact the next person in line on the Waitlist.
  • If, for whatever reason, your child cannot make it to the entire summer camp after being registered, please give us a call or send us an email at least 3 days before the start of camp and we'll give you a full refund (if you've already paid). The available space will then be given to the next person in line on the WAITLIST.
  • We reserve the right to cancel this camp due to low registration. If this happens, you will be refunded the full amount.
