OLC KIDS SPRING BREAK CAMP
March 24-28, 2025
OLC Kids Spring Break Camp (for ages 8 to 13) is a full-day week-long camp where kids learn and play chess*, robotics**, microscopy and Rubik's cube. The camp starts at 8:00am (PT) and ends at 4:00pm (PT). Campers will need to bring their own snacks and lunch each day.
*Some basic chess knowledge is recommended for beginner players.
**Basic computer skills (typing, copying/cutting, pasting & saving files) is required for the Arduino (robotics) part of the camp. If you have questions, please contact us directly.

About Our Coach
Dan finished his undergraduate studies at California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) and has a Doctorate in Material Science at University of Texas-Austin.
He, along with his wife (Audrey), founded Orenco Learning Club in 2019. He is currently the instructor of the in-person Kids Chess Club and Arduino Club at OLC.
WHAT WE'LL COVER:
- Chess (Campers will learn beginner and intermediate level openings & tactics, and how to write chess notations. They will play chess in the following formats: free play, random chess, and an UNRATED chess tournament during the last day of camp with prizes).
- Arduino programming / Robotics (Campers will use the ELEGOO Starter Kit and the downloaded Arduino software to build simple electronics.)
- Microscopy (Campers will learn the different types of microscope and their parts, how to use them properly, and how to gather samples for viewing and studying.)
- Rubik's cube (Campers will learn how to solve the Rubik's cube to master the 8 steps to become cube solvers.)
SCHEDULING:
- March 24 to 28, 2025 (Mon. to Fri.), 8:00am-4:00pm (You will receive an email of the detailed schedule upon registration.)
PRICING:
- $450.00 (for current OLC members)
- $500.00 (for non-members)
Campers will receive their own camp T-shirt, chess scorebook, Arduino ELEGOO Starter Kit and Rubik's cube on the first day of camp. They will use the chess sets, laptops and microscopes from OLC.
WAITLIST & CANCELLATIONS:
- If spots are filled up, your child will be put on a WAITLIST with a position number (ex. 1st in line). You will be notified via phone or email if there are any withdrawals based on your position number. If you decline to take the spot, we will contact the next person in line on the Waitlist.
- If, for whatever reason, your child cannot make it to the entire summer camp after being registered, please give us a call or send us an email at least 3 days before the start of camp and we'll give you a full refund (if you've already paid). The available space will then be given to the next person in line on the WAITLIST.
- We reserve the right to cancel this camp due to low registration. If this happens, you will be refunded the full amount.
